THIS IS OUR ONLINE GROUP’S FINAL MEETUP!
At least, at the meet up website. If you are unfamiliar, don’t worry-now is not the time to get familiar with them…just look instead for us HERE.

We will continue to host events of course, but it will be through our FACEBOOK PAGE (become a FAN)
Mix To Go Magazine’s Facebook page

OVERVIEW

We return once again to Crystal’s Bar and Lounge for an edition of Spin Radio FM’s Rhythm & Soul Lounge. Spin Radio FM is an internet radio station featuring broadcasts of new music, artist interviews/performances and travel info.
This particular edition of R&SL will be the FINAL GATHERING OF MIX TO GO MAGAZINE through the Meetup website. We may join forces with other groups in the future, but our business of meeting for events will continue exclusively through our Facebook page (see link above) AND through our blog at Mix To Go Magazine’s Blog.

We will celebrate the final weekend of BLACK MUSIC MONTH with a gathering to view the BET AWARDS 2009 at Crystal’s Bar and Lounge. Some of the biggest stars of black music will perform, get awards and show their all-important fashion swagger.

Although one chapter of our social network ends, another will begin so please, as always, bring a friend!

2009 BET AWARDS

NOMINEES…AND OUR WINNER CHOICES!!!
Fan voting was done on BET’s web site. We added the percentages next to the nominee of what their choices were, then placed our choice next to that. We didn’t look at the fans choices then choose, by the way…we happen to like some of what they selected-but we made our choice, then looked at the fan choices after.

(01) BEST MALE R&B
The Dream…22%
Jamie Foxx…27%
Ryan Leslie…2%
T-Pain…32%
Ne-Yo…16% (Freedom’s choice and Martina’s choice with her quote…”no question!!!”)
Note overall: it seems (thank goodness) people are at odds about who to choose. We’ll see Sunday.

(02) BEST FEMALE R&B (% by the fans)
Beyonce…50% (do they mean for the year or overall; it isn’t fair if they are going by overall & not for 2008-9)
Keyshia Cole…23%
Keri Hilson…17%
Jennifer Hudson…8% (Freedom and Martina agreed!)
Jazmine Sullivan…3%

(03) BEST GROUP
Day 26…57% (what are they thinking?!)
GS Boyz…22%
N.E.R.D….9%
The Roots…4% (Freedom’s choice. Martina’s also: “they didn’t separate the categories-hip-hop/R&B together?! wow.”)
Three-Six Mafia…8%

(04) BEST COLLABORATION
Jamie & T-Pain for “Blame It” (Martina’s choice)…21%
Keri Hilson Featuring Lil Wayne “Turnin’ Me On”…21%
Jim Jones/Ron Brownz Featuring Juelz Santana “Pop Champagne”…3%
T.I. Featuring Rhianna “Live Your Life” (Freedom’s choice)…28%
Yung LA f/ Young Dro and T.I. “Ain’t I”…26%

(05) BEST MALE HIP-HOP
Lil Wayne (Martina’s choice)…42%
Rick Ross…2%
T.I. …42%
Kanye West (Freedom’s choice)…9% (how could he NOT be the most influencing artist in the game called hip-hop right now?! We are talking MUSICALLY people-I know he can be an egomaniac at times. HE ADMITS THAT but let’s deal with the music-the hits all year-the great pioneering sounds he brought to hip-hop…or brought BACK to the diversity of hip-hop. Artists are doing HOUSE beats and rapping to it thanks to (but not exclusively responsible) what Kanye did on 808s and Heartbreak…
Young Jeezy…4%
…The fans chose Lil Wayne and T.I. by 42%-a tie!

(06) BEST FEMALE HIP-HOP ARTIST
Trina (Martina and the fan’s choice)…48%
M.I.A. (Freedom’s choice)…29%
Lil Mama…23%…I like her, but think whoever compiled this one didn’t think there are enough good female hip-hop artists.
Although Lil Kim has had a lower profile than usual, she still put records out there…Eve has also been quiet on the scene (although she’s on Jadakiss’ remix of “Who’s Real” with Swizz Beatz, Drag-On and DMX)…we need some heat from Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, even Foxy Brown…folks start acting and forget about rapping!

(07) BEST NEW ARTIST
Keri Hilson (fan choice)…62%
Ryan Leslie…2%
Kid Cudi…13%
M.I.A. (Freedom’s choice)…5%…how quickly people forget. She had one of the biggest records of last year INTO this year with “Paper Planes,” then had Kanye West produce “Swagger Like Us” for T.I. with Jay-Z on it…another huge hip-hop anthem. How did the fans forget all that? AND her album.
Jazmine Sullivan (Martina’s choice)…18%

(08) BEST GOSPEL
Regina Belle…3%
Shirley Cesar…9%
Mary Mary (Freedom & the fan’s choice)…74%…one of the few times we ALL agree!
Smokie Norful…7%
Trin-I-Tee 5:7…6%
Martina said, “no comment.” :)

(09) VIDEO OF THE YEAR
Beyonce – “If I Were A Boy” …6%
Beyonce – “Single Ladies” (Martina’s choice)…37%
Jamie Foxx/T-Pain – “Blame It”…11%
T.I./Rhianna – “Live Your Life” (Freedom’s choice)…40%
Kanye West – “Heartless” …6%

(10) VIDEO DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR
Benny Boom…fans: 25%
Rick Cordero…fans: 12%
Gil Green…fans: 6%
Chris Robinson…fans: 23% (Freedom’s choice)
Hype Williams…fans: 34%
Martina had no comment! :)

(11) BEST ACTOR

Will Smith…fans: 59% (Freedom’s choice)

Jennifer Hudson…10%
Beyonce Knowles…36% (WE ARE SHOCKED!!!)

(13) BEST FEMALE ATHLETE
